Letter to the Heads of three European Governments
Your Excellencies,
Mr. Emmanuel Macron, President of The Republic of France,
Sir Keir Starmer, Prime Minister of The United Kingdom and
Mr. Friedrich Merz, Chancellor of The Federal Republic of Germany,
Subject: Request for mediation
Respectfully we, a coaltion of five Iransian opposition organizations, take the liberty to write to you with a request for mediation between the continuing conflict between Iran and Israel.
The ongoing war between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the State of Israel, which began with a surprise attack by Israel, is unfortunately becoming a widespread regional war. So far, hundreds of people on both sides have been killed and thousands injured, and parts of the vital infrastructure of the two countries have been severely damaged.
The “Hamaami” coalition condemns Israel’s military aggression against Iranian territory. This war was started by Israel in clear violation of the fundamental principles of international law and is a serious threat to regional and global peace and security.
It is obvious that the continuation of conflict can lead to further destruction of the infrastructure of the countries involved and the migration of millions to Europe, which will have widespread humanitarian and political consequences.
We, in the Coalition for a Secular Democratic Republic in Iran, find that the differences between the two contries cannot be solved through violence and military action.
In this connection, we welcome the recent visit of Mr. Dr. Araghchi, Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, to Your Excellencies as a step in the right direction.
We also appreciate the valuable diplomatic efforts of Your Excellencies to promote peace and security and reduce disputes and conflicts at the international level.
Still, we would urge Your Excellencies to use your unique capacities and those of your respective governments to mediate between the conflicting parties and thus to forestall a regional war that is getting out of hand, the long-term effects of which could be disastrous for the whole world.
